BBC writes about Maraş ice cream: The best in the country
The BBC has featured the famous delicacy of the Eastern Mediterranean, Maraş ice cream, on its pages. In the report written by American journalist Paul Benjamin Osterlund, the unique dense texture and traditional production process of Maraş ice cream were highlighted.
The United Kingdom's public broadcaster, the BBC, has opened its pages to a delicacy from the Eastern Mediterranean. The report, published with the byline of Paul Benjamin Osterlund, covers Maraş ice cream. It is reported that this cold dessert is distinguished from its counterparts around the world by its dark, dense, and stretchy structure.
The author, who says he went to Bayrampaşa in Istanbul for Maraş ice cream, uses the phrase "the best in the country."
The American journalist, who has lived in Turkey for a long time, says that this ice cream is not eaten in a cone, but on a plate with a knife and fork.
Mehmet Vanlı, who has been making Maraş ice cream for half a century, explains that he learned this craft from Osman Kanbur, the older brother of the family that owns Mado.
DESPITE THE EARTHQUAKE, ICE CREAM PRODUCTION INCREASES
Speaking to the American journalist in his shop in Bayrampaşa, Vanlı states that milk, salep, and beet sugar are essential, and says they use a mixture of goat, sheep, and cow milk.
Despite the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred in February 2023, producers managed to increase the amount of ice cream. The export figure, which was 100 thousand tons in 2022, was increased to 120 thousand tons the following year.
