Master director of Yeşilçam, Yılmaz Atadeniz, has passed away

'Dağların Oğlu', 'Kahreden Kurşun', 'Kan Gövdeyi Götürdü', 'Aslanların Dönüşü', 'Çirkin Kral' and 'Silahların Kanunu', director of unforgettable films such as these, Yılmaz Atadeniz has closed his eyes to life at the age of 91.

Atadeniz, who was taken to Sarıyer Eftal Hospital a week ago, had been diagnosed with Covid-19 and was placed in intensive care after developing an infection in his lungs.

Announcing the sad news, actor Zafer Algöz said, "We have lost our elder Yılmaz Atadeniz, the director who signed his name to interesting films of Yeşilçam. May God have mercy on him."

'OUR GRIEF IS GREAT'

Yılmaz Atadeniz's daughter, Işık Atadeniz, made the statement, "An infection developed in my father's lungs. We lost him this morning. Our grief is great."

WHO IS YILMAZ ATADENİZ?

Yılmaz Atadeniz was born on February 1, 1932, in Istanbul.

He was a graduate of Kabataş High School for Boys. After the sudden death of his older brother, Orhan Atadeniz, who was an editor and film director, he began working at the Erman Film Studio. He served as a founder in associations and unions in the field of cinema.

He was the founder of the Sine-Sen (Sine-Kamder) association and served as its president for two terms, and had been serving on the Board of Directors of the Film Producers Association since 1988. He served as Jury President at the 2nd Ankara Film Festival in 1989 and the Golden Boll Film Festival in 1992.

In January 2007, he became the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SE-SAM (Turkish Cinema Works Owners Professional Union), a position he still held as of 2020.

He received an Honorary Award at the 45th Antalya Film Festival in 2008 and at Konya Selçuk University in 2012.
