Warning issued: 'The hot days are over! A very hot summer is at the door'
Prof. Dr. Barış Önol issued a warning for the summer season, stating, "A very hot summer is at the door. The hot days are over; much hotter days are ahead."
Prof. Dr. Barış Önol from the Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) Department of Meteorological Engineering announced, using maps shared based on ECMWF seasonal forecasts, that April 2024 has been recorded as the hottest April ever measured in Turkey.
RECORD INCREASE OF OVER 4 DEGREES
Prof. Dr. Önol warned, "April 2024 was experienced as the hottest April ever measured in Turkey. Temperatures were at record levels, nearly 4 degrees above normal across almost the entire country. These are very serious values for such a wide area. And a very hot summer is at the door."
Prof. Dr. Önol had also shared the map showing the ECMWF's forecasts for May, June, and July as follows:
Honestly, I was a bit shocked when I saw the forecast below in January. A very warm end to winter and start to spring had been predicted. The same forecast continues for the 3 months (May-June-July). The hot days are over; much hotter days are at the door. A bright red planet.
