Car that crossed the median fell onto a vehicle coming from the opposite lane

The accident occurred around 21:30 in the Kuruçay area of the Burdur-Fethiye Highway. According to the information obtained, the Tofaş brand car with license plate 15 ACL 809, driven by Mehmet Peşen (18), who was traveling from Burdur towards Fethiye, lost control as it reached the exit of Kuruçay village.

The car crossed the median, flipped over, and fell onto the Volkswagen car with license plate 15 DF 105, driven by Ali Ç. (33), which was coming from the opposite lane. In the accident, Tofaş driver Mehmet Peşen and passenger Emir Özer (20) were thrown from the vehicle and were severely injured, while the other driver Ali Ç., his wife Fatma Ç. (31), and their child Duru Ç. (7) were injured.

Ismail Dinçer, who was on the side of the road and witnessed the accident, immediately went to the vehicles and notified the 112 Emergency Call Center, after which numerous health, fire, police, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.

Health teams arriving at the scene determined that Mehmet Peşen and Emir Özer had lost their lives, while the other driver Ali Ç., Fatma Ç., and their child Duru Ç., who were extracted from the vehicle by fire crews, were taken to Burdur State Hospital by ambulance after receiving initial intervention.

Relatives of Mehmet Peşen and Emir Özer, who arrived at the scene after hearing the news of the accident, suffered nervous breakdowns upon learning of the youths' deaths. The bodies of the young men were taken to the Burdur State Hospital Morgue for autopsy after the prosecutor and crime scene investigation teams completed their work. Meanwhile, Ali Ç., who received initial treatment at Burdur State Hospital and was in serious condition, was transferred to Isparta City Hospital.

Eyewitness İsmail Dinçer, who was cleaning his business by the roadside at the time of the accident and was the first to rush to help, said, "While I was cleaning around my business and checking the flags next to the Kuruçay sign, a loud noise suddenly came from the intersection. I estimate the Tofaş car was coming at a speed of around 150 kilometers per hour when it suddenly swerved 100 meters behind where I was, crossed the median, flipped over, and hit the car in the opposite lane.

Since I was the first one at the scene, I immediately ran to them and called 112. I told them that two vehicles had collided, people were thrown out, I didn't know if there were any fatalities, and that the ambulance should come quickly. Then I took the keys out of the vehicles and turned them off. There was a woman and a child in the car; I got them out. The driver was trapped but conscious. I took traffic safety measures until the officials arrived. I tried to do my best, calling it a humanitarian duty," he said.

"ACCIDENTS HAPPEN CONSTANTLY"

Stating that he has been operating a business in the area where the accident occurred for years and has witnessed constant accidents, İsmail Dinçer added, "Accidents happen here all the time. I even thought about closing my rest facility and opening a tire shop or a tow truck business. Vehicles turning from the intersection ahead see that the road is straight and keep pressing the gas, and this problem happens here constantly," he said.

An investigation into the accident has been initiated.
