What is the latest situation in the Sputnik strike? Workplace representative Nejdet Eksilmez speaks out

The Sputnik strike has surpassed its 47th day. Media workers who were dismissed on the grounds of being unionized have taken their grievances to the judiciary and filed lawsuits for reinstatement. Meanwhile, the "preliminary injunction" lawsuit filed by Sputnik against the striking workers, which would have provided legal protection, resulted in a rejection.

APPEAL TO THE MINISTRY

Eksilmez said, "Neither the union nor we have received any response from Sputnik. Our applications are ongoing. The union is also monitoring new hires. They are making official applications regarding these as well. We were laid off on the grounds of downsizing. However, during this process, the union's investigations revealed that irregular hiring had taken place.

18 people were hired during this process; this is strike-breaking and a constitutional crime. In the same month they fired us for being unionized, they quickly started a rehiring process. We expect the Ministry to conduct an investigation into the matter," he said.

'WE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL WE WIN'

Stating that reinstatement lawsuits have been filed as a legal procedure, but that the main achievement will be the collective bargaining agreement negotiations, Eksilmez said, "Our resistance has become a symbol for all those who have suffered rights violations. Our voice is growing. We will also carry out actions that will make more noise in the public eye. The employer thinks our guard will drop, but we will continue until we win," he said.
