Deniz Zeyrek's striking commentary on Bahçeli's Öcalan move: 'Will there be a general amnesty for the PKK?'
Sözcü newspaper columnist Deniz Zeyrek evaluated the call made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli to Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, in his column today. Zeyrek provided a critical analysis by highlighting the potential consequences of Bahçeli's move and the questions it has raised.
In his article, Zeyrek focused on what might happen if Bahçeli's call to Öcalan is not heeded by the organization, asking, “Let's say Öcalan spoke in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and made this call. What will happen if the organization does not listen to this call?” Zeyrek also pointed to the ambiguity of the potential scenarios.
KARAYILAN AND BAYIK
Furthermore, highlighting the uncertainties regarding the future of figures such as the PKK's so-called high-level leaders Cemil Bayık and Murat Karayılan, Zeyrek expressed his doubts about the fate of the organization's leadership cadre with the question, “Will these individuals benefit from the right to hope without going to prison just because they laid down their arms?”
'WILL LAYING DOWN ARMS LEAD TO A GENERAL AMNESTY?'
In his article, Zeyrek pointed out that discussions of a general amnesty could come to the agenda in the face of a potential decision by the PKK to lay down arms, asking, “Will there be a general amnesty for the PKK just because they laid down their arms?”
'WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE STRUCTURE IN SYRIA?'
Another topic that stood out in Zeyrek's article was the PKK-linked structures in Syria.
Raising the uncertainties regarding the future of the approximately 60-70 thousand-strong armed force in Syria, Zeyrek asked, “Will these forces remain outside of Bahçeli's call?”, posing significant questions regarding Turkey's security strategies.
"A SYRIAN KURDISH REGIONAL GOVERNMENT?'
At the end of the article, Zeyrek pointed to what kind of result Bahçeli's call might produce for structures such as the PYD and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Referring to the “Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government” in Northern Iraq, he questioned whether we might hear the phrase “Syrian Kurdish Regional Government” in the future.
