Cemil Tugay arrives at AKP Headquarters, makes move toward Erdoğan

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay has arrived at the AKP Headquarters in Ankara following claims that he would join the AKP. It is expected that the party badge will be pinned on Tugay by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Making a brief statement to members of the press in front of the Headquarters, Tugay said, "I love İzmir very much, beautiful things await İzmir."

Tugay's joining the AKP is being evaluated as a notable development in local İzmir politics. It is noted that with the completion of the process, the AKP will have a say in the management of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality for the first time during its tenure in power.

Prior to the accession, it was observed that Tugay had begun following AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his social media account.
