CHP PM meeting concludes: They are coming to Istanbul in full force tomorrow

The CHP Party Assembly, which met today at the party headquarters under the leadership of CHP Leader Özgür Özel, decided to go to Istanbul in full force along with the party's high-level officials and some mayors. According to the decision taken at the meeting, Özel, members of the Central Executive Board (MYK), members of the Party Assembly (PM), deputies, and some provincial and district mayors will come together in Istanbul tomorrow (January 16).

The main agenda item at the CHP PM meeting was the detention of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat and 47 municipal employees in a 'dawn operation'.

Following the PM meeting, where it was decided to closely monitor developments regarding the operation against Beşiktaş Municipality, CHP Leader Özgür Özel, MYK members, PM members, deputies, and some provincial and district mayors will go to Istanbul tomorrow. Özel will hold a press conference in front of the Beşiktaş Municipality at 14:00 to convey his views on the developments.

At the PM meeting, the connection between the events in Beşiktaş and the political ban cases pending in the appellate court against the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was also evaluated.

İmamoğlu had reacted to the operations conducted against the Beşiktaş Municipality, claiming that the real goal was to target him. Stating that municipal employees and CHP mayors, who have been the target of police operations recently, were 'subjected to unfair and irregular attacks,' İmamoğlu had requested support from citizens against the operations.

PRESENTATION ON MIGRATION POLICIES WAS MADE AT THE MEETING

At the meeting, Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of Interior and İzmir Deputy Murat Bakan gave a presentation on Türkiye's migration policies. Bakan provided information on the return of Syrian refugees in Türkiye, the government's approach to immigrants, and the necessity of reshaping Türkiye's migration policies.

Evaluations were also made at the meeting regarding the EU's migration policies and the situation on the Syrian border.

The CHP Women's Branch Chairwoman and Osmaniye Deputy provided information to PM members about the party's 'red card' campaign in the field. The campaign, which has resonated widely on social media, continues to receive intense support from different segments of the public. Party staff pointed out that the campaign would be a long-term activity and emphasized the importance of various groups in society being able to express themselves through the red card.

CHP Women's Branch Chairwoman and Osmaniye Deputy Asu Kaya also took the floor at the meeting and provided information to the members about the 'red card' initiative. Kaya stated that the work is a long-term project and that they found the initial reactions from citizens to be positive.
