Court-ordered halt: CHP congresses cancelled in 3 districts

The Republican People's Party's (CHP) Ataşehir District Congress will not be able to proceed due to a court decision. The Ataşehir 1st District Election Board ruled to cancel the congress, citing an interim decision issued by the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance.

The Election Board recalled that there is an "injunction to halt" the congress process.

REFERENCE MADE TO ISTANBUL PROVINCIAL CONGRESS RULING

In an official letter sent by the Ataşehir 1st District Election Board Presidency to the CHP Ataşehir District Presidency, explicit reference was made to the cancellation ruling regarding the Istanbul Provincial Congress.

The letter included the following statements:

“An application was made for the 7th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party in Ataşehir District, planned for 13/09/2025. However, in accordance with the 3rd article of the conclusion section of the interim decision issued in the file numbered 2025/254 E. of the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance dated 02/09/2025, it was decided to ‘provisionally halt election activities to be held in Istanbul provinces and districts within the scope of the 39th Ordinary Convention process.’ Therefore, we kindly inform you that the aforementioned CHP Ataşehir District 7th Ordinary Congress cannot be held on the specified date.”

OBSTACLES TO CONGRESSES MOUNT

Following Ataşehir, the Esenyurt and Sarıyer District Election Boards also decided that the CHP's district congresses would not be held due to injunctions.
