Erdoğan holds 'Gaza' phone call with the Pope

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone call with the Spiritual Leader of Catholics and Head of Vatican State Pope Francis.

According to a statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the conversation addressed the conflict between Israel and Palestine and the increasingly severe human rights violations in the region.

During the call, Erdoğan stated that Israel's attacks on Gaza, which have no place in any holy text, have reached the level of a massacre, that it is shameful for the international community to ignore what is happening, and that all states must raise their voices against this humanitarian tragedy.

President Erdoğan also said that lasting peace in the region, which houses holy sites for the three Abrahamic religions, would only be possible with the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and geographically integrated Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on 1967 borders.

Erdoğan also noted that Turkey is making great efforts to deliver humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza, and that everyone should actively support efforts to ensure that aid reaches innocent civilians without interruption.
