AKP Deputy Chairman Hayati Yazıcı held a press conference before the “New Constitution Workshop” organized at the party headquarters and made important statements regarding the new constitution efforts.

Stating that the first 4 articles of the Constitution must be protected, Yazıcı expressed that as a party, they are aware of how important these articles are.

Yazıcı said, "We are aware of how important the first, second, third, and the fourth article that protects these articles of the Constitution are, not just today, but since yesterday. We have no issues with them. On the contrary, we are in favor of protecting these articles."

NEW CONSTITUTION WITH THE BROADEST PARTICIPATION

Stating that the new constitution should be prepared in a way that encompasses all segments of society, Yazıcı emphasized that as the AK Party, they are determined for a democratic, civil, and libertarian constitution. He stated that the purpose of the workshops is to ensure a broad consensus on the new constitution by taking the opinions of academics, experts, and representatives of society.

Yazıcı said, "We aim to make a new constitution that will be prepared with the will of the nation, in which everyone will find themselves, and which is based on human rights and the rule of law."

THE FIRST 4 ARTICLES OF THE CONSTITUTION ARE NOT EVEN A SUBJECT OF DEBATE

Touching upon the debates regarding the first 4 articles of the Constitution, Yazıcı said that the opposition has created a false perception regarding these articles.

Yazıcı stated, "In the constitutional efforts, the opposition wing implies that there is an expectation of change regarding these four articles. However, we have no such agenda. The first four articles are our red line and will be protected."

Stating that the new constitution will be based on high-standard democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of freedoms, Yazıcı added that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also maintains a clear stance on this issue.
