Response from the Palace to Ali Babacan claims: 'He will do it if he deems it necessary'
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz responded to the claims, which have been widely discussed in recent days, that DEVA Party leader Ali Babacan could take a position in the cabinet.
In his statement regarding the claims in question, Yılmaz stated that if Babacan were to join the cabinet, it would be at the discretion of the President.
In recent days, rumors have increased that DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, who entered Parliament with the votes of CHP voters, would form an alliance with the AKP to manage the economy.
These claims were officially brought to the agenda with the remarks of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, who said, "The authority lies with our President; he will do it if he deems it necessary."
CHP's Veli Ağbaba directed a question on this matter to Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz at the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Committee. Ağbaba asked Yılmaz, "There are rumors circulating lately that Babacan will take charge of the economy. Do you think Babacan will save the economy?"
Yılmaz responded to Ağbaba's question by saying, "Our President is an elected President. According to our Constitution and laws, he has the opportunity to form his cabinet as he wishes and whenever he wishes. As you know, there is no vote of confidence requirement in the new system; citizens now give a direct vote of confidence. Therefore, these are matters at the discretion of our President; those issues are outside of my scope."
