Great Unity Party calls for 'death penalty'

BBP Deputy Chairman Ekrem Alfatlı arrived in Bursa to attend a press conference organized by his party's provincial branch. 

The meeting, held at the Kaplıkaya Attraction Center in the Yıldırım district, was also attended by BBP Bursa Provincial Chairman Eyüp Eken, BBP Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Yıldırım Municipality Council Member Haldun Filizli.

Evaluating Israel's attacks on Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, Alfatlı stated, “A closed session was held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly yesterday. As the BBP, we are facing an evil greater than the sum of all evils, all bad expressions, words, and actions. I am talking about the massacres Israel started in Gaza. I say this as someone who has personally seen the oppression there with my own eyes. It has been 1 year since October 7. The greatest evil the world could ever witness is taking place. We are now in a period where numbers have lost their meaning. 17 thousand children, 11 thousand 378 women, nearly 13 thousand men. There are more than 41 thousand martyrs. There are hundreds of thousands of wounded,” he said.

TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS IN SYRIA MUST BE CLEARED

Stating that terrorist organizations in Syria must also be cleared through a ground operation, Alfatlı said, “The massacres continue. Lebanon and Syria are under attack. Where is UNESCO? The health system has also collapsed, and there is no sound from the WHO. There are even newborn babies. What activity will you equate or identify this with? There is no sound from UNICEF. We are at a point where words have ended and are insufficient. Terrorist organizations in Syria must also be cleared through a ground operation,” he said.

PUNISHMENTS MUST BE DETERRENT

Making statements regarding Turkey's agenda, Alfatlı recalled incidents of sexual abuse and the martyrdom of police officer Şeyda Yılmaz in Istanbul, stating that the death penalty should be brought back with the new constitution. Alfatlı spoke as follows:

“As of the point we have reached, we, as the Great Unity Party, want the death penalty for 2 crimes. One of these crimes is for the monsters and perverts who kidnap our young children, sexually abuse them, and kill them; the second is that we want the death penalty for members of terrorist organizations who murder our soldiers, police, citizens, teachers, and innocent people, as well as those who give them orders. You know, they recently martyred a policewoman. He has a long criminal record. This deviant is walking around outside. They martyred our innocent daughter, our police officer, burning our hearts. What will his punishment be now? Therefore, we say that the death penalty must absolutely be introduced for 2 crimes in the new constitution. If punishments are not deterrent, they will not soothe the hearts of the relatives of those who have been abused, subjected to violence, or lost their lives.”
