İYİ Party's Buğra Kavuncu reacts to Bahçeli's call to Öcalan: 'To an illegal organization...'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's handshake with DEM Party deputies and his call to the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, to “declare that his organization will be unilaterally liquidated” continues to occupy the agenda.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement that “Bahçeli’s handshake with the DEM Party Co-Chairs is an important step” and DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder's expression of gratitude to Erdoğan and Bahçeli have brought claims of a 'new resolution process' back to the agenda.

"WE ARE ON THE EVE OF ANOTHER RESOLUTION PROCESS"

İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Buğra Kavuncu made evaluations regarding the agenda at a meeting he held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Speaking about the claims of a resolution process on the agenda, Kavuncu said, "It is clear that we are on the eve of another resolution process, which was attempted in the past and which we criticized heavily at the time. There is preparation for this."

REACTION TO BAHÇELİ'S CALL TO ÖCALAN

Emphasizing that no lessons have been learned from past mistakes, Kavuncu also reacted to the call made by MHP leader Bahçeli to the terrorist leader Öcalan.

"Let alone learning lessons, much more reckless and much riskier steps are being taken. There is a difference between that day and today," said Kavuncu, and continued as follows:

"There are illegal immigrants in our country. There are refugees under temporary protection from Syria. Along with this, there is an Interior Minister who says, 'I don't know the address of the refugees,' in numbers exceeding hundreds of thousands. In such an environment, calls are being made to an illegal organization and a resolution process is being mentioned."

Touching upon the constitutional debates, Kavuncu spoke as follows:

"Instead of dealing with the first 4 articles of the Constitution, instead of commenting on the 3rd article of the Constitution, instead of dealing with these articles that protect the fundamental structure of Turkey, you should deal with the Presidential Government System."

Stating that mafia and gang activities are on the rise, Buğra Kavuncu noted the following:

"You read news in the newspapers about gang activities all over Turkey. They have started to threaten prosecutors. Let alone threatening, all personal information of the prosecutor is falling into the hands of the mafia. In such a process, we see that the mistakes made in the past are being repeated and there is a possibility that results that will lead to much more dire situations will emerge. The state ends terrorism. No call is made to any individual, especially to a terrorist leader, to end terrorism. Of course, our party has no hesitation regarding 'peace' or 'ending terrorism.' However, for us, the solution and the path to this are singular. Weapons will be laid down forever. Those barrels turned towards our civilians, soldiers, and police will be buried—never to be brought out again—and they will surrender to Turkish justice. After that, if something is to be discussed, it is discussed. However, any search made while those weapons are held in hands will reveal something much more dire than the processes we experienced in the past."

"THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE EARTHQUAKE WILL BE BORNE BY TODAY'S OFFICIALS"

Emphasizing that the earthquake has entered their agenda again following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Malatya yesterday, Kavuncu evaluated, "Unfortunately, nothing is being done. Urban transformation is progressing slowly. The responsibility for an earthquake that will happen tomorrow will be borne by today's officials."

Congratulating economist Daron Acemoğlu, who was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics, Kavuncu said, "As Turkey, we are all proud. He received a Nobel Prize for his findings and studies in which he refers to the power, stability, efficiency, and inclusivity of institutions, and that the development level, happiness, and welfare of countries are directly proportional to the stability of these institutions."

Reminding that the 2023 Public Ombudsman Institution (KDK) Report will be discussed in Parliament, Kavuncu drew attention to the fact that the most applications to the KDK are related to the public personnel regime.

İYİ Party's Kavuncu explained that a situation exactly opposite to the findings Acemoğlu made regarding the inclusivity of institutions is reflected in the KDK report.

REACTION TO AKP OVER ANIMAL MASSACRE

Reacting to the animal massacres in Gebze and Ümraniye, Kavuncu said, "Why did you pass a law that you would be ashamed of? We debated it here for days and nights. We didn't hear a single word from the AK Party members."

Pointing out that citizens wake up in the dark in the morning, Kavuncu demanded the abolition of the permanent daylight saving time practice.
