İYİ Party's Turhan Çömez reveals death threats from the PKK terrorist organization

The tension that occurred last week in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) between İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Pervin Buldan has led to Çömez being threatened by the PKK terrorist organization. Çömez had reacted to Buldan's relaying of criticisms made by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan regarding the media.

Sharing the threatening messages he received with the press, Çömez stated that he received messages containing phrases such as, "You fascist Turhan Çömez, you are hurling insults at Ms. Pervin Buldan. Do not go too far. Otherwise, it will be our duty to take your head. We will not warn you again."

Speaking to Cumhuriyet, Çömez stated that he also received many threatening messages via social media, saying, "These messages are coming from extensions of the PKK terrorist organization. However, the fact that they reached my mobile phone and threatened me by saying, 'We will not warn you again, we will kill you,' shows a grave situation."

DREW ATTENTION TO SECURITY VULNERABILITY

Çömez emphasized that the fact that his personal information fell into the hands of members of the terrorist organization is a serious security vulnerability. "The state needs to take the necessary steps regarding this matter. The safety of members of parliament and their families must be ensured," he said.

THE STATE NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION

Çömez called on the authorities, saying, "The state is there. The Ministry of Interior, the Speaker of the Parliament, and the President are all there. Those who govern the state see the process. Let them do what is necessary." Stating that he had received similar threats before but did not take them into account, Çömez added, "They can only be low enough to kill innocent children, raid villages in the middle of the night, and set ambushes for our soldiers, police, and teachers."
