Lütfü Savaş's name not read at CHP candidate introduction meeting
The Republican People's Party (CHP) introduced all of its mayoral candidates for the March 31, 2024 local elections at a meeting held in Ankara. Lütfü Savaş, whose candidacy has sparked controversy, was not announced.
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş, who has faced criticism following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, was not called to the stage despite reports that he would be the CHP's candidate again.
LÜTFÜ SAVAŞ'S NAME WAS NOT READ
While candidates for Hatay's district municipalities were called to the stage, the name of the Metropolitan Municipality candidate was not read, unlike what was done for other provinces.
Last week, a definitive decision had not been reached regarding Lütfü Savaş, whose candidacy had been brought to the agenda for withdrawal at the Party Assembly (PM) due to public backlash.
Chairman Özgür Özel had been granted the authority to decide whether or not to nominate a new name to replace Lütfü Savaş, who was also the target of criticism from PM members.
