Muharrem İnce reacts to 'double standard' from the Supreme Election Council (YSK)
Memleket Party Chairman Muharrem İnce has reacted to the Mersin Provincial Election Board's decision that Haluk Bozdoğan, who was nominated as his party's Tarsus mayoral candidate after resigning from the CHP, 'cannot be a candidate'.
İnce reacted to the election board's 'cannot be a candidate' decision regarding Haluk Bozdoğan, whom his party nominated as the mayoral candidate in Tarsus, Mersin.
Stating that opposite decisions were made despite similar situations occurring in two different districts, İnce's post on the social media platform X is as follows:
"In Tarsus, Haluk Bozdoğan resigned from the CHP on January 11, 2024, joined the Memleket Party, and became our mayoral candidate.
While the judges at the Tarsus District Election Board say 'you can be a candidate,' the political party representatives and the judges at the Mersin Provincial Election Board say 'you cannot be a candidate.'
In Mezitli and Mamak, where the same situation exists, election boards have ruled that candidates in the same situation 'can be candidates.' The law must be applied equally to everyone.
The YSK must put an end to this double standard immediately. Do not try to defeat Memleket Party candidates with an election board coup; if you can defeat them, defeat them at the ballot box!"

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE CANDIDACY PROCESS?
The candidacy of Tarsus Mayor Haluk Bozdoğan, who became a candidate again after switching from the CHP to the Memleket Party, was revoked following an objection filed with the District Election Board.
It was argued that because Bozdoğan did not resign from the party before the CHP candidate was announced, he could not be a candidate for another party.
