Mustafa Destici: The law must be passed before Parliament closes

BBP Chairman Mustafa Destici said regarding the Draft Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law, "This law must absolutely be passed before October, and our streets must be cleared of dogs."

Destici held a press conference before the Central Decision and Executive Board meeting held at the party headquarters.

Speaking about the draft law on stray animals, which is currently being discussed at the committee stage in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), Destici said, "Turkey has a problem with stray, aggressive street dogs. It is a problem that has been going on for years. It was the BBP that voiced the need to solve this with the strongest voice. There are pet food lobbies. I am not saying anything against real animal welfare associations. But we see that the majority are not actually animal lovers; they are interest seekers. The interests that a significant portion of them obtain under the guise of those associations are also being reflected in the public eye. Are we going to believe that someone is an animal lover just because they are called an 'animal lover'?"

Destici continued as follows:

"Look at the situation of a CHP deputy that has emerged. The man is speaking loudly, saying 'This is a massacre,' yet the man has served as the president of a hunting club. He hunts deer, he hunts partridges. And professionally, too. You defend dogs so much, yet you shoot partridges that don't attack anyone, you shoot rabbits. And you even pose in front of them. What happened in Parliament? They walked all over the father of Tunahan, a little child who was mauled by dogs and underwent treatment for months.

Again, a little girl was run over by a vehicle while running away from a dog and lost her life; they walked all over her mother. Who were the ones walking? CHP, DEM, and TİP deputies. They say, 'You are provoking this place.' The man has lost his loved one, his child has died. If he doesn't cry out, who should? There is no such lack of conscience. This is not humanity. This law must absolutely be passed before October, before Parliament closes, and our streets must be cleared of dogs."
