Proposal concerning millions of retirees submitted to Parliament

CHP Adana Deputy and member of the TBMM Presidential Council Müzeyyen Şevkin pointed out that retirees are among the groups most affected by economic conditions, stating that the bonuses provided during holiday periods should be adjusted to reflect current economic data.

With the legislative proposal she submitted, Şevkin envisions an amendment to the additional 18th article of the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law No. 5510. With this change, it is aimed that the bonus paid during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha will now be calculated based on the net minimum wage amount valid in the year the payments are made.

In her statement, Müzeyyen Şevkin included the following remarks: "With this regulation, we aim to prevent the erosion of the bonus against inflation and to provide retirees with fair, current, and predictable income support."

On the other hand, Şevkin also emphasized that holiday bonuses have lost significant value over the years due to inflation. Reminding that the rising cost of living increases the economic pressure on retirees, Şevkin stated that if the proposal is implemented, the bonuses will be protected by being increased in line with changes in inflation and the minimum wage.
