YENİ Party Istanbul Deputy Türkan Elçi visited Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe at his home, following his release from prison under a house arrest order. In a post on her social media account after the visit, Elçi stated that Bahçetepe had returned home after 17 months with "a pile of books."
Elçi noted that she examined the books in the house and asked Bahçetepe which one he liked the most. Stating that Bahçetepe's answer was José Saramago's novel "Blindness," Elçi said the work focuses on "moral and conscientious blindness in society."
"While the books sat in their proper place on the shelf, there was a scene more beautiful than anything else: Our Mayor was together with his wife, his mother, and his father, and they were hosting those of us who came to wish them well."
Reminding that Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe is under house arrest, Elçi noted that they carried out the visit to convey their "get well soon" wishes.
