Remarkable statement from İYİ Party's İzmir candidate Ümit Özlale: A person can also enter an election they cannot win

İYİ Party İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Ümit Özlale stated in a live broadcast he attended, "A person can also enter an election they cannot win. They can enter an election not to make someone else lose, but to better explain themselves. This is a democratic right."

Rejecting the cooperation proposal from CHP, the İYİ Party decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently'.

İYİ Party's İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate Ümit Özlale joined the Kübra Par’la Farklı Açılar program broadcast on Tv100.

During the program, Özlale made remarkable statements regarding the local elections and his candidacy.

"WE MUST DEFINITELY FIELD CANDIDATES IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA"

Stating that candidates must definitely be fielded in Istanbul and Ankara, Özlale responded to Kübra Par's question, "If the İYİ Party fields candidates against the CHP, especially in places where the opposition has previously won, such as Istanbul and Ankara, it will not only fail to win but will also cause the CHP and the opposition to lose. What is your response to the criticism that you are both not winning and causing others to lose?" by saying, "This feels a bit like underestimating the İYİ Party to me."

Gürkan Hacır asked Ümit Özlale about his candidacy for İzmir, "You said, 'I feel close to winning the election in İzmir.' But when we look at past election results, the situation does not look quite like that. What kind of quantum leap will you make to win İzmir with an attack of at least 20 points from 11? Also, you are the Metropolitan Mayoral candidate whose candidacy was announced the earliest. You set out very early. What do you see from this perspective? Do you really see such a chance of success?"

"A PERSON CAN ALSO ENTER AN ELECTION THEY CANNOT WIN, THIS IS A RIGHT"

Saying "A person can also enter an election they cannot win," Ümit Özlale used the following expressions;

"I see such a chance of success. The first impartial poll results will give us some information about how those election results will unfold in the coming period. But since the candidates of other parties are not currently facing us, it is difficult to say anything right now. My only advantage is to set out as early as possible. Let's say we didn't believe we would make a quantum leap. What was expected of us? Does this mean you do not find it right for any candidate whose certainty of not winning is not established to introduce themselves to the voter? Elections can certainly be held to win, but elections are also an important door to explain different ideas to the voter. In this respect, I will do my best to win. Let's say I thought I had no chance, why shouldn't I offer an alternative to the İzmir voter? I would see this as a passive attitude both locally and generally. A person can also enter an election they cannot win. They can enter an election not to make someone else lose, but to better explain themselves. This is a democratic right."
