Gemini 4 message from Google DeepMind's Turkish leader: It may arrive before the end of the year

Google has accelerated its preparations for its new flagship artificial intelligence model, Gemini 4. Koray Kavukçuoglu, the new leader of Google DeepMind, announced that the model is nearing release and is currently in the fine-tuning and final adjustment phase.

Speaking to The Information, Kavukçuoglu stated that the goal is to make Gemini 4 available "well before" the end of the year. Kavukçuoglu expressed that they are excited about the initial training results and want the model to be released as soon as possible.

WHY WAS GEMINI 3.5 PRO NOT RELEASED?

Google has not released a new flagship model since the Gemini 3 series it introduced in November 2025. Meanwhile, the market entry of competing models such as OpenAI's GPT-6 and Anthropic's Mythos series has increased expectations in the artificial intelligence race.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai had announced at the I/O event in May that the Gemini 3.5 Pro update would arrive in June. However, the model in question was not made available for use. Kavukçuoglu said that they took a strategic break during this process to focus on faster and lighter Flash models.

The leadership change at DeepMind is also noteworthy regarding Google's artificial intelligence roadmap. According to the report, Kavukçuoglu, who took office following Demis Hassabis's resignation in August, indicated that the company wants to move to a more regular release schedule on the Gemini side.

It is not yet clear what features Gemini 4 will come with or exactly when it will be opened to users. However, Kavukçuoglu's statements show that Google is preparing to return to the flagship model race with a new move in the near future.
