Internet speed test tool coming to Windows 11

Microsoft is preparing to introduce a new network tool with the 25H2 and 24H2 updates for Windows 11. This will allow users to perform speed tests directly from within the system whenever they want to check the network they are connected to. The company aims to provide a more convenient experience by integrating the speed test function into the main sections of the system.

Users will be able to access the speed test in two different ways. The first way is to use the “Quick Settings” menu that opens when clicking on the Wi-Fi or mobile data connection icon. The second way is to access the system via the network icon in the bottom right corner of the taskbar. When the user clicks this icon, the system will automatically launch the default browser and display Microsoft’s own speed test page.

The speed test tool offered by the system provides three basic data points: download speed, upload speed, and ping value. Download speed reveals the rate at which data comes to the computer; upload speed shows the capacity to send files and information. The ping value determines the latency in the network.

This feature, which works manually, does not perform automatic tests in the background; it must be started manually by the user to become active. Currently, the new network tool has been made available to users in the “Release Preview” channel, and it is planned to be rolled out to all Windows 11 users gradually in the coming weeks.
