TÜBİTAK organized 'Science Communication Training in Public Relations and Advertising' for the Republic's 100th anniversary
As part of its 2237 training event support program, TÜBİTAK organized 'Science Communication Training in Public Relations and Advertising' on November 30 and December 1, 2023, in honor of the Republic's 100th anniversary. The online training was attended by 9 instructors from various universities and a total of 38 master's and doctoral students.

The first lecture of the first day of the training program was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ebru Özgen, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Head of the Public Relations and Publicity Department at Marmara University, under the title of Reputation and Communication in Public Relations.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION WAS CONVEYED
Özgen presented her lecture under three headings: "The Importance of Communication," "The Scientific Nature of Communication," and "The Place and Importance of Science Communication and Public Relations within the Scope of Science Communication."
Özgen emphasized that communication forms the basis of human relationships and is inevitable for achieving social harmony.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alparslan Nas, who delivered the second lecture of the session, stated that it is necessary to focus on how a researcher relates to the knowledge they produce, that this perspective will contribute to the discovery of science communication, and that the scope of communication will become clearer when the researcher begins to explore science communication starting from themselves.
The first lecture of the second session of the training was conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sevgi Nur Sadedil.
In her speech titled "The Use of Neuromarketing Research in Marketing Communication," Sadedil focused on the EEG experiment used in measuring advertising impact and gave a presentation on neuroscience concepts via EEG.
The final speech of the first day of training was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hatun Boztepe Taşkıran. Emphasizing science communication from the perspective of public relations, Taşkıran stated that an abundance of information in modern societies can lead to a lack of knowledge, and underlined that public relations can play a significant role in the accurate and effective transfer of scientific knowledge to society.
THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERACTION BETWEEN SCIENCE AND MEDIA
The first speech of the second day of the training program was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Akbulut. During the training, the importance of science public relations was emphasized, and the interaction between science and media, as well as strategies for reaching the target audience, were conveyed to the participants.
In the second lecture, delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Umur Bedir, the necessity of translating scientific concepts and research into social life for the public in science communication was emphasized.
In the first lecture of the fourth session of the training, Prof. Dr. Nurhan Tosun emphasized that the essence of science communication lies in the ability to fully convey science to the target audience, create awareness against science, and make it felt that science can be useful in practice.
In the second lecture of the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Betül Özkaya pointed out that television is an effective tool in science communication, stating that it plays an important role in delivering scientific knowledge to the masses, and underlined that television advertisements shape our daily lives.
The final speech of the session was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merve Çerçi.
In her speech, Çerçi brought together the concepts of science communication and ethics, highlighting the ethical elements that should be considered in the science communication process.
The training concluded with an interactive closing session where the participants' views and feedback on science communication in public relations and advertising were gathered.
