A first in the Champions League: A record could be broken!
The English Premier League could have the chance to be represented by six teams in the Champions League next season.
The first legs of the semi-finals in the European cups organized by UEFA were completed on May 1. Following these matches, some teams gained an advantage for the final, while the balance remained unchanged in other pairings.
The English Premier League has earned an extra spot in the Champions League for next season thanks to its European performances this season. However, this number could rise to six if Manchester United or Tottenham win the Europa League.
According to a report on NTV Spor, Manchester United gained a significant advantage in the Europa League semi-final by defeating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 away from home. Tottenham, meanwhile, moved one step closer to the final by beating Bodo/Glimt 3-1 on their home turf. If these two teams advance to the final, six teams from the Premier League could compete in the Champions League.
This situation would be a first in Champions League history and would allow a country to be represented by six teams in the tournament. In addition to the teams that finish the season in the top five of the Premier League, the English team that wins the Europa League will also earn the right to participate in the Champions League.
