Claims of a 'grey wolf' penalty for Demiral from UEFA

According to a report in Bild, one of the leading newspapers in the German press, UEFA has handed a 2-match suspension to Turkish national football player Merih Demiral due to the 'grey wolf' gesture he made during his goal celebration.

UEFA imposed the penalty on the grounds that the 'grey wolf' gesture made by Merih Demiral during his goal celebration carried a political symbol.

DENIAL FROM THE CENTER FOR COMBATING DISINFORMATION

A denial came from the Center for Combating Disinformation regarding the reports that Merih Demiral received a 2-match suspension. The following statements were included in the announcement made on the center's social media account:

"The claim appearing in some media outlets that 'UEFA has handed a 2-match suspension to Merih Demiral' is not true.

The investigation opened by UEFA regarding Merih Demiral has not yet been concluded, and the claim that a two-match suspension has been given does not reflect the truth.

UEFA has requested a defense from our national football player Merih Demiral, and the investigation will be decided upon after the defense.

Do not give credence to baseless claims."
