Fatih Terim files defamation lawsuit: Demands payment with interest

An individual named Mahmut Ç. made a post containing insults about manager Fatih Terim on his Twitter account (now known as X) on May 16, 2021.

Terim did not let this insult go and filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office through his lawyer.

According to a report by Hürriyet, Terim's lawyer requested 8,500 Turkish Lira in non-pecuniary damages and demanded it be paid with interest. Completing the investigation, the prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit against Mahmut Ç. for the crime of 'defamation,' seeking up to 2 years in prison.

DEMANDED PAYMENT WITH INTEREST

In the case heard at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance, Mahmut Ç. was convicted of the crime of 'defamation.'

The following statements were included in the petition submitted to the court by Terim's lawyer:

“The insult committed has no measurable equivalent for Fatih Terim. The compensation for this unjust behavior, which so severely touches upon a person's values and damages their honor, pride, and reputation before their family, close circle, and society, is certainly not 8,500 lira. We request that Mahmut Ç. pay 8,500 lira in non-pecuniary damages to Fatih Terim, along with 3 years of interest.”
