Former Liverpool footballer Jermaine Pennant was attacked by a German Shepherd while walking his dogs in north London. It was reported that the 43-year-old former winger sustained four bite wounds on his right leg and received more than 50 stitches at the hospital.

Pennant explained that he was trying to protect his dog, King, during the attack, but the attacking dog latched onto his leg. The former footballer said that King later intervened, driving the attacking dog away and preventing the incident from having more severe consequences.

Sharing his experience on his Instagram account, Pennant stated, "I was attacked by a German Shepherd. I tried to protect King, but the dog grabbed my leg. I was on the ground, the dog was still latched onto my leg and didn't look like it was going to let go. King didn't understand what was happening at first, but then he intervened."

Pennant also noted that King was not seriously injured, adding that he panicked when he saw blood on his dog. The former footballer said, "I forgot the pain I was in at that moment, my heart was in my mouth. Fortunately, the blood wasn't King's either."

Stating that he chose not to report the attack to the police, Pennant also thanked his partner, Mimmi Montgomery, for taking care of him in his post. Regarding King, he wrote, "My hero is still protecting me and trying to look after me. King, you are a legend."

Jermaine Pennant, who ended his football career in 2018, made 231 appearances in the Premier League. Pennant, who also played for Liverpool and Stoke City, currently works as a commentator for talkSPORT.
