AKOM issues downpour warning for Istanbul: Temperatures to drop on Friday

AKOM issues downpour warning for Istanbul: Temperatures to drop on Friday

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Disaster Affairs and Risk Management, AKOM, has released its latest weather forecast report for Istanbul. According to the report, hot weather will continue to affect the city through the middle of the week, while thunderstorms are expected to occur starting Friday as temperatures drop.

In its assessment for Wednesday, August 26, AKOM stated that the air temperature, which is 24 degrees in the morning, will rise to 31 degrees by noon. The temperature is expected to hover around 25 degrees in the evening and 22 degrees at night.

While no precipitation is expected across the city today, the wind is forecast to blow strongly from the northeast (poyraz), and with increased intensity in the evening. It was reported that wind speeds will range between 10 and 40 kilometers per hour, and humidity levels will vary between 45 and 85 percent. The sea water temperature was announced as 24 degrees.

AKOM announced that air temperatures will remain 1 to 3 degrees above seasonal norms until Friday, and will drop to the 27-29 degree range starting Friday. From that same period onwards, thunderstorms are expected to be effective in Istanbul.
