Apple to allow users in the EU to delete default apps like 'Safari'
US tech giant Apple will make it possible to delete the App Store, Messages, Photos, Camera, and Safari apps as part of its compliance with European Union (EU) laws.
In a statement from Apple, it was announced that changes will be made for users in the EU by the end of the year regarding the browser selection screen, default apps, and app deletion for iOS and iPadOS.
The statement noted that these updates will be carried out in compliance with the requirements of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and added that third-party tools will also be made available.
The statement indicated that users in the EU will see a "default apps" section available to every user in settings on iOS and iPadOS 18, and noted that users will have new default settings for dialing phone numbers, sending messages, translating text, managing passwords, keyboards, and spam call filters in future software updates.
The statement also included the information that the App Store, Messages, Photos, Camera, and Safari apps will now be deletable for users in the EU.
