Azerbaijan summons Russian Embassy charge d'affaires to Foreign Ministry

Pyotr Volokovikh, the Russian charge d'affaires in Baku, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry following the deaths of two Azerbaijani citizens during raids in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.

Azerbaijan summons Russian Embassy charge d'affaires to Foreign Ministry

According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Pyotr Volokovikh, the charge d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Baku, was summoned to the ministry yesterday following a raid conducted by the Federal Security Service (FSB) on the homes of Azerbaijanis in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, which resulted in 2 deaths, multiple serious injuries, and the detention of 9 people. The Azerbaijani side's strong reaction to the incident was conveyed to Volokovikh. Azerbaijan communicated its expectations to the Russian side for the incident to be investigated and for all perpetrators of the violence to be brought to justice as soon as possible.

TWO BROTHERS LOST THEIR LIVES

The Seferov family, of Azerbaijani descent, was targeted in operations carried out yesterday morning (June 27) in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. During simultaneous raids on more than 10 addresses, two brothers named Ziyaddin and Hüseyin Seferov lost their lives. As a result of the operation, 3 people were hospitalized with serious injuries, and 9 people were detained.

According to information in the Azerbaijani press, the raids were carried out on apartments where the Seferov family, originally from the Agdam region of Azerbaijan, resided.

STATEMENT FROM RUSSIA

In a statement from the Russian Interior Ministry, it was noted that the operation was carried out as part of an investigation into certain crimes committed in Yekaterinburg in previous years and was conducted with the support of the Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR) of the Russian National Guard. While it was noted that searches were conducted at the addresses of the detained individuals, no information was provided regarding the loss of life that occurred during the operation.
