China's UN Permanent Representative Fu reacts to US 'military adventurism'
China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Fu Cong, regarding the rising tension between the US and Iran in the Middle East, stated, "The use of force will not solve any problems. Any 'military adventurism' will only drag the region into an abyss of unpredictability."
As the US increases its military buildup in the Middle East alongside its threats against Iran, a statement has come from China regarding potential military activities the US might carry out in the region. Speaking at the United Nations (UN) Security Council session on the Middle East held in New York, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Fu Cong addressed the protests and violent incidents in Iran, saying, "The current situation in Iran has drawn significant reaction. While the possibility of a potential war looms in the distance, tensions in the region are rising. Iran is a sovereign country, and decisions regarding the country's internal affairs must be made independently by the Iranian people themselves. China hopes for and supports the maintenance of stability in Iran."
Fu warned against "military adventurism" in the region, stating, "The use of force will not solve any problems. Any military adventurism will only drag the region into an abyss of unpredictability. We call on all parties to act in accordance with the principles and purposes of the relevant UN Charter, to stand against interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and to condemn the use of threats and force in international relations."
The Chinese representative expressed, "China hopes that the US and other relevant parties will heed the call of the international community and other countries in the region, engage in more activities aimed at ensuring stability and peace in the Middle East, and avoid escalating tensions to prevent fanning the flames."
Fu stated that China is ready to cooperate with the international community to ensure that the necessary respect is shown for the independent choices of the peoples of the region and to build peace and stability in the region, adding, "The Middle East belongs to the people of the region and is not a battleground for the rivalries of major powers. At the same time, it should not be a victim of the geopolitical struggles of powers outside the region."
