Claims that the deadline granted to the SDF regarding Hasakah was extended have been denied

The Syrian government has issued a statement regarding the consultation period granted to the SDF, the Syrian branch of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, concerning the future of Hasakah province, following successes achieved in operations conducted against the terrorist organization in recent weeks.

Mohammed Taha al-Ahmed, Director General of Arab Affairs at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that various claims have been made regarding the extension of the ceasefire between the parties just hours before the deadline, which is set to expire at 20:00. Emphasizing that these statements are baseless, Ahmed explained that the SDF continuously requests extensions and ceasefires in order to gain time. Noting that no positive response has been given to the proposals offered by the Syrian state so far, Ahmed stressed that, on the contrary, ceasefire violations are continuing.

Ahmed also reminded that all weapons in the country must be held under the authority of the Syrian Ministry of Defense and the Syrian Ministry of Interior, while underlining that the entry of PKK terrorist organization elements into Syrian territory is contrary to international law and Syrian laws. Ahmed stated that these violations will be combated within a legal framework.

A four-day deadline had been granted

In a statement made by the Syrian Presidency on January 20, it was noted that a common understanding had been reached on various topics regarding the future of Hasakah province during the talks held with the SDF. In the published declaration, it was reported that a 4-day consultation period was granted to the SDF administration to create a detailed plan regarding the integration process of the regions, and it was conveyed that if an agreement is reached between the parties, Syrian army units would not enter the city centers of Hasakah and Qamishli. While it was stated that the units would be deployed on the outskirts of the cities, it was noted that the calendar and details regarding the peaceful integration of Hasakah province, including Qamishli, would be addressed in the coming period.
