Damascus government and SDF reach agreement: First statement from the ruling party front
It has been reported that an agreement aiming for full integration between the Syrian administration and the SDF has been implemented. In a statement made by the AK Party regarding the matter, it was emphasized that this step would contribute to unity and peace in the region.
Following long-standing negotiations between the parties in Syria, a notable consensus has been reached. According to information reported by SANA, the Damascus administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have shaken hands on a comprehensive integration agreement. If the agreement is implemented, a new political and military order is expected to take shape in the conflict-ridden region.
STATEMENT FROM ŞAMİL TAYYAR
Şamil Tayyar, one of the well-known figures of the AKP, made a detailed assessment of the developments on social media. Regarding the agreement, Tayyar used the following expressions:
“How should we read the 14-point agreement between the Syrian government and the SDF?
And how did the process conclude, what happened behind the scenes?
The text of the agreement has been shared, but let us first state its main outlines.
For one thing, the SDF has become history.
They will hand over their weapons to the Syrian army, and their personnel will not transition as institutional units like divisions/battalions, but individually to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior, provided that their security clearances come back clean.
All border crossings, oil/gas fields, and water resources will be left to the Damascus administration.
Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa will be completely transferred to Damascus administratively and militarily.
The only gain for the SDF is the Governorship of Al-Hasakah. Whether Mazloum Abdi himself or a person he proposes will be appointed as governor.
Heavy military weapons will be withdrawn from Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), but a local security force consisting of city residents will be formed under the Ministry of Interior.
While Trump’s Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, was drafting the agreement text in Damascus and Erbil, he also held intensive talks between Washington and Ankara.
The final form was given to the agreement after the consent of our President @RTErdogan and Trump.
One small detail.
Some Republicans in the US opposed the agreement, and the crisis was overcome after our President intervened and convinced Trump.
In short.
This agreement, which envisions the elimination of terrorist elements and the unity and vitality of a new Syria where everyone will live as brothers, is Turkey’s seal on the region.
May it be auspicious”
DETAILS OF THE AGREEMENT
The transfer of control of all major energy resources and borders in the region to the Syrian central government was also one of the prominent aspects of the agreement. In addition, the administrative and military management of the Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa provinces passed to Damascus.
Another notable article of the agreement was that the governorship position in the Al-Hasakah region would be left to a person to be proposed by the SDF. Furthermore, the withdrawal of heavy weapons from Kobani and the formation of a local security force in the city were also included in the scope.
