The European Union has condemned the recent attacks by the Houthis in Yemen against Saudi Arabia and their military activities in the region. In a statement, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Anouar El-Anouni strongly condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabia, including the recent strikes that targeted Makkah al-Mukarramah.
The statement declared, "The EU stands in full solidarity with Saudi Arabia. Targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable."
Noting that Houthi attacks undermine hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in Yemen and further negatively impact regional security, the statement called on the Houthis to "cease all their military activities."
Emphasizing that the EU will continue to support the people of Yemen and the internationally recognized Yemeni government, the statement noted that the EU will work in cooperation with the United Nations (UN), regional partners, and the international community to de-escalate tensions and ensure a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable peace.
