EU: Israeli officials are violating international law

The EU has reacted to the announcement by far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich that he would approve a plan for an illegal settlement called "E1" in East Jerusalem.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Israel's aforementioned settlement plan is not in accordance with international law and called on Israeli officials to halt this plan.

Kallas said, "The decision by Israeli officials to proceed with the E1 settlement plan further undermines the two-state solution and also constitutes a violation of international law. The EU reiterates its call for Israel to stop settlement construction."

Israel plans to build 3,401 illegal housing units as part of the "E1" project, which aims to separate regions in the West Bank from one another and cut Jerusalem off from Palestinian territories on all sides.
