First step from North America to IGA Istanbul Airport: Air Transat is flying to Istanbul

IGA Istanbul Airport, one of the world's most important global transfer hubs, is preparing to host Canadian airline Air Transat, the first airline it will serve from the Americas.

Air Transat, Canada's second-largest airline and winner of the "World's Best Leisure Airline" title at the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards, will begin direct flights on the Toronto – Istanbul route on December 6. Flights will be operated twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The fact that Canadian citizens have been able to travel to Turkey visa-free as of 2024 opens new doors for tourism and cooperation between the two countries. Thanks to the new route, which is expected to make a significant contribution to Turkey's tourism, especially in Istanbul, it is also aimed to establish a strong connection for business travel between Canada and Turkey.

According to the "2025 Airport Industry Connectivity Report" by Airports Council International - ACI Europe, IGA Istanbul Airport, which is the 'World Leader' in the global connectivity hub ranking and has been Europe's 'Airport with the Highest Air Connectivity' for two consecutive years in the Direct Connectivity ranking, continues to develop its network with the Air Transat agreement.

Canada-based Air Transat operates flights to a total of 62 destinations in 29 countries, primarily in Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, and the USA, with a fleet of 44 modern aircraft. Aiming to strengthen intercontinental connectivity with its expanding destination network, Air Transat has included Turkey in its global network via IGA Istanbul Airport.
