'Gaza' resignation at the US State Department

Israel's brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip have been continuing uninterrupted for 175 days. While millions of people around the world react every day to the massacre by the Israeli army, which is carrying out attacks on all points of the region, no steps that lead to a result for the good of the region and the Palestinians are coming from governments.

Annelle Sheline, who worked on human rights issues at the US State Department, stated that she resigned to protest the US government's support for Israel, which continues to bomb and starve the people of Gaza.

Stating that the US has lost all its credibility regarding human rights advocacy, Sheline said, "There are many people at the State Department who do very important work on this. But until President Biden is willing to take a stand on this, the work they do will not really make a difference."

"IT DEPENDS ON DEFENDING THESE VALUES"

Emphasizing that it is very important for the US to uphold the values it claims to believe in, Sheline said, "The moral leadership of the US around the world depends on its defense of these values."

Touching on the personal cost of her decision to resign, Sheline emphasized that she has a young daughter at home and that she had no choice but to resign, saying, "If she asks me in the future what I was doing while this was happening, I want her to know that I did not remain silent. I could not continue to watch what was happening and go to work every day."
