Iran and Persian Gulf countries to meet in Oman with Strait of Hormuz on the agenda

As part of diplomatic contacts regarding ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the foreign ministers of Iran and countries bordering the Persian Gulf will come together in Oman.

Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that the meeting will be held at the ministerial level on September 14. According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, Iran, Iraq, and other Persian Gulf coastal states will participate in the meeting.

Baghaei stated that in the talks to be hosted by Oman, in addition to regional topics, the results of Iran-Oman contacts aimed at determining safe routes for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz will also be evaluated.

Stating that they are making efforts for the security of the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei argued that ship safety in the strait cannot be guaranteed under conditions where the US naval blockade and interventions continue.
