Iran's 7 conditions for negotiations with the US: Demand for lifting sanctions and guarantee for Hormuz

Ali Bagheri, Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, announced that for a serious negotiation process with the US to begin, the Washington administration must accept and implement the 7 conditions set by Tehran.

Speaking to Iranian state television, Bagheri made assessments regarding the negotiation process on the Tehran-Washington line. Stating that whether the US is sincere about reaching a fair agreement at the negotiating table will be understood by its approach to these conditions, Bagheri said, "If the US has a serious will to negotiate and reach a fair agreement, it must accept the 7 conditions put forward and implement them."

Bagheri argued that these conditions were determined due to assessments that the US has violated its past policies and the obligations it undertook in previous negotiation processes.

TEHRAN'S CONDITIONS

Among the conditions Iran has conveyed to the US are the lifting of the naval blockade and guaranteeing the safe passage of commercial ships and oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran also demands the lifting of unilateral sanctions, the granting of exemptions for oil exports, and the release of frozen Iranian assets. Keeping nuclear materials within Iran's borders and ending the war are also among the announced conditions.

Bagheri claimed that the US launched a "second war" after five rounds of negotiations in the spring of last year. The Iranian official alleged that while diplomatic contacts were continuing in the autumn, Washington took steps inconsistent with the principles of negotiation, and in the winter months, it carried out an assassination attempt against Iranian leader Ali Khamenei.

Stating that if Washington accepts and implements the conditions, it could be evaluated whether a serious negotiation process can be moved to, Bagheri expressed that otherwise, the US might be trying to gain political advantage with a temporary agreement. Bagheri also drew attention to the possibility that the US might turn to pressure policies or military intervention again after the elections.
