Israel launches airstrike on Syrian capital Damascus: 'We will not allow it to become a threat'
It has been reported that Israeli aircraft conducted an airstrike on the Syrian capital, Damascus. The Syrian Transitional Government has confirmed the attack.
It has been announced that aircraft belonging to the Israeli Air Force have carried out an attack on the capital, Damascus, in Syria. It was stated that a headquarters belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement was targeted in the attack.
Israeli aircraft targeted a building in the Mezzeh-Dummar area at 13:45 local time. During the attack, two loud explosions were heard, and smoke was seen rising from the targeted building.
According to a report by the Israel-based Channel 14 television, it was claimed that the headquarters of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement was targeted in Israel's airstrike on Damascus.
Sources from the Syrian Transitional Government confirmed the attack but did not share any information regarding casualties.

ISRAELI MINISTRY OF DEFENSE CONFIRMS THE ATTACK
Confirming that Damascus was targeted, the Israeli military stated in a release that it had struck a 'command center belonging to Palestinian Islamic Jihad.'
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the attack demonstrated that Israel ''will not allow Syria to become a threat to the State of Israel.'' Katz stated, ''Islamist terrorism against Israel will have no immunity, whether in Damascus or anywhere else.''
