Israel withdraws thousands of troops from Gaza
For the first time since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, the Israeli army is withdrawing thousands of troops from the Gaza Strip.
Israel is expected to transition to a phase of 'targeted operations' against Hamas. An Israeli official speaking to Reuters stated that reserve soldiers who were previously called up for duty are also returning to civilian life.
ISRAELI ARMY WITHDRAWS FROM THE REGION
It was stated that some of the troops have been redirected to the southern half of the city, where clashes are more intense. The troop redeployment signals that the intensity of fighting in the northern half of Gaza is being reduced. Israel has been under pressure from the U.S. for some time to reduce the intensity of its attacks. The news of the withdrawal also comes ahead of a visit to the region by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
However, fierce fighting continues in other parts of Gaza, particularly in the southern city of Khan Yunis and the central parts of the region.
"WE NEED A LITTLE MORE TIME"
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, "The war will continue for several more months until its goals are achieved. We need a little more time to achieve victory. We want to ensure that Gaza does not pose any threat."
Claiming that the Israeli army has killed 8,000 Hamas militants, Netanyahu expressed that the Israeli government sees the possibility of progress regarding a prisoner exchange.
