New statement from US Secret Service regarding assassination attempt on Trump

The US Secret Service has acknowledged its failure in the assassination attempt on Trump.

Acting US Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, in a statement to reporters regarding the armed attack on Trump while he was addressing supporters from the podium at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, said, "This was a mission failure. The sole responsibility of our agency is to ensure that those we are tasked to protect are not put in danger."

Stating that the Secret Service is ultimately responsible for the security lapses, Rowe repeatedly emphasized that local police forces should not be held responsible for the security failures in the attack on Trump.

The Acting Director continued as follows:

"We failed in Butler, and I am working to ensure that this failure does not happen again. I am focused on ensuring that all of the Secret Service's resources are used to defend those under our protection, and I have implemented and will continue to implement changes to ensure this happens."

Testifying at a joint hearing of the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees on July 30, Rowe underscored that he would continue to cooperate with oversight investigations.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP

Former US President Donald Trump was subjected to an armed attack while addressing supporters from the podium at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13; 1 person attending the rally died, 2 people were injured, and the US Secret Service announced that the attacker had been neutralized.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defined the attack as an assassination attempt and, following investigations, announced that the person who carried out the attempt and was killed at the scene was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who faced criticism after former US President Donald Trump was shot during his election rally, resigned on July 23.

Roland Rowe, who became Acting Director after Cheatle, testified before the Senate committee on July 30 regarding the assassination attempt and stated that he could not "defend" why the roof from which the assassination attempt on Trump was carried out had not been secured.
