Operations continue in the area where a Turkish Armed Forces cargo plane crashed in Georgia

Operations are ongoing in the area where the wreckage of a Turkish Air Force C-130 military cargo plane was found after it crashed near the city of Sighnaghi in Georgia's Kakheti region while returning to Turkey from Azerbaijan.

The area where the wreckage is located has been placed under a security cordon. Authorities are currently only allowing security units and rescue teams affiliated with the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs to enter the scene. Search and rescue teams are struggling to continue their work due to the difficult terrain and poor weather conditions.

Local sources reported that pieces of the plane's wreckage are scattered across the steep slopes near the Khirsa Monastery and that the wreckage was first spotted by local residents.

Georgian Prime Minister İrakli Kobakhidze called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to convey his condolences regarding the accident. Kobakhidze stated, "I conveyed my sincere condolences to President Erdoğan regarding the accident that occurred as a result of the crash of a Turkish Air Force cargo plane in Georgia. In this difficult time, Georgia shows full solidarity with its Turkish friends. Our thoughts are with those who lost their lives, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy."
