Pezeshkian: We are ready to reach an agreement with the US
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that they are ready to reach an agreement in negotiations with the US while protecting their national interests.
According to Iranian state television, Pezeshkian spoke at a meeting held in Tehran.
In his speech, addressing the negotiation process with the US, Pezeshkian said, "We are ready to reach an agreement in negotiations with the US within the established framework and by protecting our national interests, but if they do not want to negotiate with us on equal footing, we will continue on our own path. As the Supreme Leader (Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei) said, we are neither optimistic nor pessimistic."
Pezeshkian added, "We are not here to fight, but we do not accept bullying either."
THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS BETWEEN IRAN AND THE US
US President Donald Trump, who unilaterally withdrew his country from the nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, had sent a letter to Iranian leader Khamenei last month calling for direct nuclear negotiations with Iran. Iran responded to the letter via Oman.
Following the exchange of letters, Iran and the US held indirect talks in Oman on April 12.
The parties met again in Rome, the capital of Italy, on April 19, with Oman mediating. Both Iran and the US had announced that progress was made in the negotiations.
Iran had announced that technical discussions at the expert level would be held in Oman on April 23, and that indirect talks would continue in Oman on April 26.
