Police raid home of Peruvian President Boluarte

In Peru, a raid was conducted on the home of President Dina Boluarte following an order from the Attorney General's Office as part of a "luxury watch" investigation.

Police, who surrounded Boluarte's home in the Surquillo district of the capital Lima, broke down the door with a battering ram.

The operation sought luxury watches that Boluarte had not declared as part of her assets.

In a statement made by the police, it was stated that the operation was carried out for the purpose of "search and seizure." It was learned that Boluarte was not at home during the raid.

SHE STATED SHE BOUGHT THEM BY WORKING SINCE SHE WAS 18

A preliminary investigation was launched into Boluarte two weeks ago after reports spread in the Peruvian media that she was wearing different luxury watches.

The purpose of the investigation was to determine whether there were grounds for a formal investigation against the President. Boluarte, whose ability to afford numerous luxury watches was questioned, had stated that she bought the watches with money she earned by working since she was 18 years old.

Boluarte had used the expression, "I entered the palace with clean hands and I will leave with clean hands."

Following the removal of former Peruvian President Castillo from office by Congress on December 7, 2022, Dina Boluarte was appointed to replace him.

Demonstrations were held across the country demanding Boluarte's resignation and the holding of elections, and more than 50 people lost their lives in the resulting incidents.
