Roof of entertainment venue collapses: At least 44 dead

Dozens of people have lost their lives after the roof of an entertainment center collapsed in the Caribbean nation of the Dominican Republic. 

The roof of the entertainment venue named "Jet Set," located in the capital Santo Domingo, collapsed while customers were inside.

According to initial reports, 44 people who were trapped under the rubble as a result of the roof collapse have lost their lives, and more than 160 people have been injured.

Stating that the reason for the roof collapse is not yet known, officials noted that singer Rubby Perez, who was performing on stage at the time of the accident, was also injured.

Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader stated in a post on his X social media account that search and rescue teams are "working tirelessly" to reach those trapped under the rubble.

Abinader said, "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub. We have been following the accident minute by minute since the moment it happened."

Juan Manuel Mendez, Director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) of the Dominican Republic, stated that efforts to extract those trapped under the rubble are ongoing.

Mendez said, "We estimate that many people are still alive. For this reason, the authorities will not give up until not a single person remains under the rubble."
