Russia calls on Trump administration to 'correct its mistakes'

Zakharova held a weekly press conference in the capital, Moscow, to address current issues.

Responding to the question, "U.S. President Donald Trump has revoked the executive order issued by the former President Joe Biden administration regarding sanctions on extremist Jewish settlers in the West Bank. How does Russia evaluate this decision by Trump in the context of the deteriorating situation in the West Bank?", Zakharova stated that time is needed to understand the new U.S. administration's strategy for the region.

Evaluating the U.S. withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), Zakharova emphasized that this is "regrettable."

Regarding the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, Maria Zakharova said, "This was a predictable step. The existence of this agreement does not end with the U.S. withdrawal, and international activities in this field will continue. We believe that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement are the fundamental international instruments regarding the global climate."

Evaluating Trump's statement that "the Biden administration made mistakes regarding Ukraine," Zakharova pointed out that Biden made these mistakes while representing the U.S.

Emphasizing that mistakes made on behalf of the country must be corrected, Zakharova said, "If the Trump administration acknowledges that mistakes were made and argues that the situation in Ukraine is the result of the previous administration's errors, then these mistakes must be corrected."

Spokesperson Zakharova also noted that there have been no contacts regarding the possibility of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov meeting with the new U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Touching upon NATO's activities in the Baltic Sea, Zakharova said, "We are closely monitoring the situation in the Baltic Sea, and we will respond appropriately if ships belonging to NATO countries exploit the situation."

Regarding the possibility of sending NATO military units to Ukraine, Maria Zakharova assessed, "The intervention of NATO forces in Ukraine could lead to an uncontrollable escalation of tension. This is absolutely unacceptable for Russia."
