South Korea issues 'nuclear' warning to North Korea

Tensions between South Korea and North Korea continue to rise. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol stated, "I believe it would be irrational for (the North) to decide to launch a nuclear attack against South Korea. If they do so, the nuclear-based South Korea-US alliance will immediately strike North Korea with US nuclear weapons."

South Korea issues 'nuclear' warning to North Korea

In an interview with the American magazine Newsweek, South Korean President Yoon stated that his country has been developing its military "against threats from the North" since the Korean War.

Yoon noted that the North Korean military's conventional capabilities are "far lower" compared to the South, and that Pyongyang is "trying to increase its nuclear capabilities for this reason."

Stating that according to some polls, 60-70 percent of the South Korean public supports the acquisition of nuclear weapons, Yoon assessed that South Korea possessing nuclear weapons "could lead to Japan and Taiwan also acquiring nuclear weapons, which would create a greater security threat in the region."

Yoon said, "I believe it would be irrational for (the North) to decide to launch a nuclear attack against South Korea. If they do so, the nuclear-based South Korea-US alliance will immediately strike North Korea with US nuclear weapons."
