Stern warning from Ireland to Israel: 'Condemning Gaza to starvation is a war crime'

Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin and Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris, who also serves as the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, have issued sharp reactions to Israel's obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Speaking at the Global Ireland Summit, the two leaders expressed their concern over the deepening humanitarian crisis in the region.

Prime Minister Micheal Martin stated that a ceasefire must be reached in Gaza as soon as possible, hostages must be released, and uninterrupted humanitarian aid must be delivered to the region, adding:

"For more than 50 days, food, medicine, and basic necessities have not been allowed into Gaza. By blocking the entry of humanitarian aid, Israel is pushing Gaza toward a starvation crisis."

Martin expressed that targeting civilians is unacceptable, sending a clear message to Israel by stating, "Regardless of the circumstances, inflicting hunger and suffering on a civilian population is wrong in principle and legally."

Emphasizing in his statement that such an approach is not only unethical but also a crime in legal terms, Martin said, "This behavior absolutely constitutes a war crime. Furthermore, talking about the displacement and permanent occupation of those in Gaza is completely unacceptable. This is not only contrary to international law. History has shown us that this situation offers no solution."

The Irish leader also stated that they believe the only way out for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East is a two-state solution. He underscored that they will continue to act together with the international community toward this goal.

Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris, in his assessment, expressed their deep disappointment and anger regarding the obstruction of humanitarian aid with the following words:

"We are struggling to find the words to diplomatically express how disgusted and horrified we are by the obstruction of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Children are suffering from hunger. Even the most basic painkillers are inaccessible. Hospitals are being hit, and the scale of death and destruction in Gaza is at an unimaginable level."

Reminding that Gaza is on the brink of famine, Harris said this situation is a shame for humanity.

"We cannot allow this to happen. When people look back at these days in history, they will say, 'people did not do enough.'" he said, calling on the international community.
